The Silent Killer…. Tall Poppy Syndrome
We work with creators on a daily basis and are creators ourselves.
And one of the biggest mental barriers we see creators come up against - no matter their follower count - is imposter syndrome.
This is fuelled by a culture of tall poppy syndrome.
When you break it down you realise they feed into each other beautifully.
Imposter syndrome tells us “who do I think I am”!?
Tall poppy tells us “who do you think you are”!?
Unfortunately, we have a culture in Australia that likes to ‘bring people back down to earth’.
Which in turn, stops them from becoming a star.
After speaking to creators from other countries we felt the difference in mentality immediately.
We realised Aussie creators biggest weakness is how we speak to ourselves & each other.
Because when we do get a win...
We ignore it, minimise it, shrink it down so small, so no one thinks we are ’full of ourselves’.
But what would happen if we really felt into how amazing we are?
Would that really turn us all into narcissistic assholes?
We doubt it.
Instead, we might see a shift in how we talk about what we do, how we describe ourselves and what we choose to celebrate when we finally get a win!
Something we practice with our Creators Club Community is celebrating our wins each week.
At first you can see how uncomfortable Aussie creators are with speaking about themselves.
But over time instead of ego building, confidence fills its place.
So let us stop talking and put all of this into practice!!
