The creators who are winning think like a business owner
Creators are business owners, yet many creators donât identify with that label.
Today, our hope is to get you on board the business train.
Itâs fun here, we promise!
Hereâs the thing, having a business minded approach to your content creation process is the best thing you can do if you want to take this full time.
When we started weâŚ
đ Posted content only when we felt like it
đ Did sooo much for free
đ Measured our success by how many views and followers we gained
đ Only made one style of content
đ Paid ourselves whatever we got paid for a job
đ Were constantly distracted by new platforms, new trends and what the algorithm wanted from us.
When we shifted our mindset to seeing this as a business we startedâŚ
⨠Showing up consistently
⨠Charging for our skillset
⨠Focusing on building community over vanity metrics
⨠Reinvesting back into our business and upgrading our gear
⨠Setting goals for every QTR
⨠Having better conversations with our manager
⨠Developing deeper relationships with industry people
⨠Building a memorable personal brand.
In our 30 Day Challenge, we focus on ALL of these aspects.
Because creating content is just ONE part of being a creator.
The rest just happens behind the scenes.
A perfect example of a creator who thinks like a business owner is Kayla Malss.
We were lucky enough to interview her in our latest episode of the Creator Advantage and learn about how she thinks about content.
She describes the switch from âhobbiestâ to âprofessionalâ creator so well and we think it comes down to three things:
1. Accountability
You need someone in your corner like a coach, setting you deadlines and looking at your content from an objective perspective.
2. Community
You need friends that get it, like other creators who are on the same journey as you that you can lean on for support.
3. Confidence
You need to believe that you can do this. That your story is worth listening to. That your skillset is worth hundreds or thousands of dollars an hour. That you can and will get better if you put in the effort.
If you are struggling with any of the above three, you should definitely give the episode a listen (click the image below)
Kayla went from 0 brand deals to getting paid for SEVEN videos in under 40 days.
Her story just goes to show that when you put yourself out there and take this content thing seriously, you can get results FAST!!
