The top creators don’t just make content, but they build worlds too.
Kai Cenat showed this recently as he brought his idea to life for Streamer University, a literal college campus for livestreamers.
In this world, Kai was the Dean,
Fanum was campus police,
Markell Washington was cheer coach
and even Lizzo and T-Pain made appearances as music professors.
This world had it all - location, characters and multiple storylines.
But livestreamers aren’t the only ones great at building worlds.
We can’t forget one of the best creators in the content space, Mr Beast.
The fascinating thing is, he builds worlds for almost each YouTube video of his which would take an insane amount of effort.
Squid Game IRL, grocery stores, islands and chocolate factories, he has really done it all.
But now he is going beyond content and building theme parks too!
And he isn’t stopping there; his show on Amazon, Beast Games, has a literal city for contestants to stay in too!
Looking at the UK, The Sidemen, are another great example of creators who are always building worlds for their audience.
They have developed multiple shows which have been watched by hundreds of millions of people.
Their original show, Inside, has gotten the attention of Netflix.
(which is a show similar to Big Brother).
And since that show was so successful, they created a new one called Outside, and we’re guessing is going to be similar to survivor.
Again… location, characters, multiple storylines.
So thats some creators who are doing it at a really high level.
But what does that mean for the up and coming creators like us in Australia?
Do we need to be a billionaire like Mr. Beast to build our worlds?
The answer is no.
The key thing to recognise here is that content has been 2D for a long time.
A creator films their day, everyone watches.
The next frontier involves other people entering a world.
If you want to be a first mover in the space, you'll need to invite people into your world first.
Don’t worry about renting out a college campus, selling a show to Netflix or investing in a theme park.
Instead, think of events you can host to bring people together.
Run clubs.
Conferences.
Live podcast sessions.
Dinners.
Retreats.
That is the first step.
