Why being original doesn’t work

It’s the harsh truth you need to hear today.

It’s true that being a creator is a creative pursuit, but we would argue that 99% of content is actually inspired by another piece of content.

Therefore, nothing we see on our feeds is truly original.

This is the same in every industry too, you just haven’t noticed it yet.

🎨 Art

🏡 Architecture

💃 Dance

👩‍🍳 Culinary

👔 Fashion

🎧 Music

No matter where we look, we are seeing a persons interpretation of something that inspired them to create a new body of work.

In dance, before you choreograph your own routines, you first must learn basic dancing techniques like timing, rhythm, movement, expression.

In cooking, before you make your own recipe, you first must learn the basic cooking techniques like knife skills, heat control and seasoning.

When drawing, you first learn through tracing, copying references, studying proportions, and shading before starting with a blank canvas.

I think we need to get it out of our heads that copying is a bad thing.

When we all do it.

Every day.

In content, this notion isn’t as accepted.

Creators want to build a new series from scratch or start posting content about products no one is talking about yet.

When you’re starting out, there is no need to reinvent the wheel or start a new trend.

There is a time for that, eventually, but most creators never even get there, because they burn out before they see any success.

Here’s the truth about originality.

It’s gruelling. Slow. And is regularly misunderstood.

Most creators we speak to are doing the equivalent of this:

“Hi, I want to be a musician, so first thing I’m going to do is invent a new genre of music”

No wonder why so many creators don’t make it.

They are doing too much at the start.

Really your role in the first phase should be learning what great content looks like and replicating that in your unique voice.

We teach you how to do this in the 30 Day Challenge.

No more ‘guessing’ and a lot more ‘omg it worked’!!

It’s not magic. It’s just making the invisible rules visible.

But if you’re thinking….

Does this mean I can’t be creative??

God, no!! There is still plenty of room for creativity, taste and your own unique perspective.

We just give you a system to replicate that works, so you don’t have to continue fumbling around like a rookie.

Once you learn the fundamentals, then you can start creating something truly unique and have a way better chance of it being accepted by the masses.

We have another 30 Day Challenge starting soon, if you want to learn more, reply to this email and we’ll put you on the waitlist!

World Building is the next frontier for creators.
The top creators don’t just make content, but they build worlds too.    Kai Cenat showed this recently as he brought his idea to life for Streamer University, a literal college campus for livestreamers.  In this world, Kai was the Dean, Fanum was campus police, Markell Washington was cheer coach and even Lizzo and T-Pain made appearances as music professors.    This world had it all - location...
